Web Hosting Advice
Shared hosting may mean being associated with other businesses whose work is the search engines that serve them. If you wind up sharing an IP address (unique web server address) with an for example, a spam website, this can cause you problems if the search engines associate your site as an highly spammed site. This can be avoided by asking for your own unique IP address.
See our list of good hosting providers that will provide you a unique IP address for only a small additional monthly charge.

Web hosting. The truth and nothing but the
truth.
If you’re going to run a website, one of the first
things you’re going to have to do is find a
company to host your website on their server. In
case you’re entirely new to website building and
operating, I’ll take a minute to explain what
hosting means.
Just so we are all the same page, when we refer to a server
we are talking about a computer (a fancy PC) connected to
the Internet network that is dedicated to the particular
purpose of storing all the information needed for a website
and performing the critical functions and for that purpose.
|
|
|
For example, a Web server would store all files related to
your Web site and perform all work necessary for hosting the
Web site along with special functions like an ecommerce
shopping cart, doing a keyword search, and maintaining a
mailing list.
Web hosting takes two forms: in the first, a
large and complicated site, say a company site is allocated
to its own server, called a “dedicated server” where this
website is the only website on this server. This server may
be made up of one or many CPUs (central processing units)
that work together to power the server and run the website,
email and database operations of the whole organization. The
bigger the job, the bigger the server and the greater need
for the organization to be the only being run on that
server. Dedicated servers cost a lot, reflecting the
importance and global necessity of the job. If you are
starting a single website, or even a couple of websites, you
won’t need a dedicated server.
